Comparable store sales for The Elder-Beerman Stores Corp. decreased 2.9 percent for the five weeks ended April 5, 2003 compared to the five weeks ended April 6, 2002. Total store sales decreased by 4.0 percent to $50.8 million versus the same period last year.
The best performing businesses in March were ladies accessories, moderate sportswear, cosmetics, domestics and furniture.
Year to date comparable store sales for the 9 week period ended April 5, 2003 decreased 8.1 percent. Total store sales for the year to date period decreased by 8.7 percent to $86.8 million versus the same period last year.
