Easton Sports announced that Robert H. Grubbs along with two others won the Nobel Prize in chemistry for discoveries that let industry produce drugs and advanced plastics more efficiently. Easton, working under an exclusive arrangement with Materia, Inc. who owns the rights to Grubbs’ development, has applied the revolutionary technology to its sporting goods products, the first of which was a composite baseball bat developed in 2002, said Jim Easton, chairman of Easton Sports, Inc.

“Easton is always looking for new research to pioneer the application of revolutionary new materials in sporting goods products,” said Easton. “When Materia came to us several years ago, we recognized the potential of this technology and set up a research partnership for bats, ice hockey sticks, arrows, and other products. We think it has great potential.”
