The sporting goods industry, which relies on mainland China for so much of its production,  has begun contributing gear and dollars to help victims of the May 12 earthquake that  leveled much of Sichuan Province, China. 


Coleman recently donated 1,000 Coleman tents for aid to people displaced by the massive May 12 earthquake in Sichuan Province, China. Tents are in big demand as the government strives to shelter the estimated 5 million people left homeless. The tents were delivered to earthquake victims on May 24, along with other commodities.


Keen, meanwhile, has donated cash to the Red Cross Society of China and is preparing to ship 15,000 pairs of shoes to Sichuan. Johnson Outdoors donated cash in response to an appeal by the U.S.-China Business Council, which has worked through the National Sporting Goods Association and the Outdoor Industry Association on behalf of the People’s Republic of China.


Adventure Medical Kits of Bozeman, MT donated insect repellent through a relief organization, said Simon Ashdown, director of public relations. And in the U.K., British cycle apparel maker Polaris Apparel pledged 30% of its retail sales and 10% of its trade sales through June to raise money for relief efforts.
