In a world of conglomeration in the Run Specialty Retail category, the new Denver Run House opens July 20 as the metro area’s only single-store independently owned running store.
Coming in strong with brands Adidas, Scott, The North Face, Salomon, Asics, Saucony, New Balance, Altra, Brooks and Mizuno, Denver Run House should fare well in the burgeoning Tennyson Street district and Berkeley Highlands neighborhood of Denver. (3832 Tennyson St.) The store also just opened accounts with Pearl Izumi and La Sportiva.
On Saturday July 20, the Denver Run House will open to the public with shoe fittings, product demos, grilling out, free beer, and a raffle, beginning at 10 a.m.
The shop is owned by Patrick Colleran, 32, who renovated an old bungalow-style home in the Denver neighborhood complete with front porch and back deck designed to be a place for runners to congregate, meet-up and to come for knowledge exchange, as well as new products.
This is Colleran’s first foray into retail as he exits the corporate world to turn his personal passion into a business. “We’re working to make Denver Run House a community-oriented shop for runners of all levels,” Colleran said. He ran for the University of South Dakota but primarily runs marathons and ultras now, preferring trail to pavement.
Colleran says the recent purchase of Boulder Running Company by the Gart Companies, “creates an opportunity for a truly locally owned and operated store.” Colleran has hired Ryan Bailey as the full-time store manager; Bailey comes from six years at the TC Running Company store in Eden Prairie, MN.
The store will carry its big brands alongside niche products as well as an extensive sports-nutrition section. The Denver Run House run club will meet Thursday nights at 6:30 p.m. at the shop. Find them on Facebook or call (303) 993-5007.
