With a “major announcement” to be disclosed at a press conference early Thursday morning featuring Colorado’s Governor, Denver’s Mayor and the head of the Colorado Outdoor Recreation Industry Office, the famed Outdoor Retailer Show is expected to announce a move from Salt Lake City to Denver.

Wide speculation among the industry and media about Denver’s landing of the show arrived after the Denver Post reported that Emerald Expositions, the parent of the Outdoor Retailer show, would also be sending its top personal to the press conference that would also include Denver Mayor Michael Hancock, Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper and Luis Benitez, the head of the Colorado Outdoor Recreation Industry Office.

“All the players are saving the official news for a news conference with the governor and mayor on Thursday, but it’s clear Denver has landed the coveted Outdoor Retailer trade show,” wrote the Denver Post.

An e-mail to media from Colorado’s Outdoor Recreation Industry Office would only state that Benitez, Hickenlooper, Hancock “and other industry leaders will make a major announcement.”

The event will take place Thursday, July 6, 10:30 a.m. local time at City Park Rose Garden in Denver.
