Denimsandjeans.com will kick off its maiden invitation-only trade show in Vietnam next month to showcase the country’s rapidly expanding denim and sportswear supply chain.
The event, which takes place June 16-17 at Gem Center in Ho Chi Minh City, will bring together top fabric and apparel manufacturers, international mills, chemical and accessory suppliers.
Vietnam is already the second-largest exporter of apparel and footwear to the U.S., just behind China, but could grow that share significantly under the proposed Trans Pacific Partnership trade agreement. Many textile and garment companies in the region have already begun to move production to Vietnam in anticipation the U.S. Congress will approve the deal, which eliminates or dramatically lowers duties on goods traded between the 12 signatory countries, which includes the United States and Vietnam but not the People’s Republic of China.
Major U.S. retailers such as Sara Lee, JC Penney, Express, The Gap, Macy’s, Nordstrom’s, Mast Industries and American Eagle source a sizeable portion of their imports from Vietnam.
TPP could also stimulate U.S. textile exports to Vietnam, which will eliminate duties on 98.4 percent of of U.S. textiles and apparel immediately and 100% within four years of TPP’s ratification.
While Denimsandjeans will focus primarily on increasing Vietnam’s denim exports through a series of seminars, panel discussions, and presentations, it also seeks to promote Vietnam’s broader apparel industry.
Denimsandjeans.com helped launch denim shows in Bangladesh in 2014. Visitors can apply for invitations to its show online.
