The U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission reported that Delta Cycle issued a recall on September 5 of its ceiling hoists with straps. The plastic buckles, which hold up large gear (kayak, canoe, bikes) using a pulley system, could break, posing an injury hazard. Delta Cycle has received four reports of incidents, including one minor injury.
Delta Cycle sold about 25,000 of its ceiling hoists in the U.S. and 3400 in Canada at REI, other independent stores and online at Amazon.com and designbydelta.com from February 2017 through July 2024 for about $40.
This recall involves ceiling hoists with straps, model number RS2300. The company lists the model number only on the product packaging. Units affected by this recall will have serial numbers within one of the 16 ranges listed below on the bottom of the pulley or will not have a serial number at all:

Consumers can locate the serial number on the underside of the flat part of the 6-inch long pulley where the pulleys attach to the ceiling. Unscrew the flat plate from the ceiling to check the underside and locate the serial number.

If consumers are using the ceiling hoist to hold a bicycle and not using the included straps, no recall action is needed.
