Deckers Outdoor Corporation settled its lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles against Steven Madden, Ltd. Deckers' trademark and trade dress infringement complaint alleged that Steven Madden, Ltd. was selling knockoffs of Deckers' popular UGG Rock Star and Uptown sheepskin boots, complete with reproductions of Deckers' registered Sun Design Logo and unique design elements on the uppers and soles of the boots.

Steven Madden, Ltd. acknowledged infringement, agreed to pay a confidential amount in settlement, and agreed to an injunction prohibiting it from using the term “UGG” as a trademark or in referring to Steven Madden, Ltd. products, and from using Deckers' registered “Sun Logo” trademark. Steven Madden, Ltd. must also cease development, reproduction, manufacturing, advertising, promoting, selling, offering to sell, importing, or distributing any of the infringing products.

“Knockoff products hurt everyone. They lack the high quality found in genuine Deckers products, confusing our consumers and diverting sales from our retailers,” says Angel Martinez, CEO Deckers Outdoor Corporation. “We take all violations of our intellectual property rights very seriously and will continue to vigorously defend our trademarks, copyrights, patents, and designs of all brands – UGG Australia, Teva and Simple Shoes – against infringement.” says Mr. Martinez.
