Deckers Outdoor Corporation announced late Friday that it had settled its trademark trade dress infringement lawsuit against Steve Madden Ltd. DECK had filed the suit in the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles in January, alleging that Madden’s retail stores were selling knock-offs of Rock Star and Uptown sheepskin boots designed and marketed by Deckers’ UGG brand. The Madden product apparently included “reproductions of Deckers' registered Sun Design Logo and unique design elements on the uppers and soles of the boots.”

According to the Deckers release, Steven Madden, Ltd. “acknowledged infringement, agreed to pay a confidential amount in settlement, and agreed to an injunction prohibiting it from using the term “UGG” as a trademark or in referring to Steven Madden, Ltd. products, and from using Deckers' registered ‘Sun Logo’ trademark as part of the settlement. Madden must also “cease development, reproduction, manufacturing, advertising, promoting, selling, offering to sell, importing, or distributing any of the infringing products.”
