Deckers Outdoor Corporation announced that David Powers will join the company as president of direct-to-consumer (DTC), effective mid-August. In this newly created role, Powers will lead Deckers' retail and e-commerce businesses and report directly to Angel Martinez, president, chief executive officer and chair of the board of directors.

Powers joins Deckers from Converse, a division of Nike, Inc., where he was vice president of global DTC and licensed retail since 2008, during which time he successfully guided the expansion of the Converse brand into Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and Asia and developed relationships with key license partners resulting in over 1900 partner stores.

He also served on the Nike senior leadership team and as a member of the Converse executive leadership team. He brings to Deckers more than 20 years of experience in the retail business and has developed merchandising, product, and store concepts at some of the industry's top retailers.

Previously, Dave held several leadership roles at Timberland including worldwide general merchandise manager where he was responsible for global merchandising and oversaw brand merchandising and strategy. He earlier spent 10 years at Gap Inc., where he was divisional merchandise manager for men's and kids businesses.

“We are excited to have Dave join our team. His background makes him the ideal person to lead our consumer direct division at this point in its evolution,” Martinez said. “I am confident he will be an invaluable asset as we continue to expand our global business including growing our store base to approximately 200 by the end of 2015.”

Deckers Outdoor owns UGG Australia, Teva, Sanuk, Tsubo, Ahnu and MOZO.
