The Golf Datatech National Golf Rounds Played Report showed that in June, golf rounds played nationwide were down 3.3% versus the prior year's month. The findings represent 4,200 reporting courses. In the year-to-date period, golf rounds are up 0.2%.
The only two regions to show gains during the month were the Pacific, up 1.7%, and West North Central, up 0.7%. All other regions showed declines over the period, with the Mid-Atlantic (-8.5%) and New England (-8.1%) showing the largest drops as rainy weather dampened the prime golf seasons in those areas.
Nationwide, public access courses declined 2.7% in June while private courses were down 5.4%.
In the year-to-date period, Pacific was up 1.2%; West North Central jumped up 9.6%; East North Central moved up 3.1%; and the Mid-Atlantic nudged up 0.1%.
In the YTD period, public access courses were up 0.6% and private courses were down 1.0%.
