Dakine, the outdoor accessories company, plans to launch outerwear for the Fall 2012/Winter 2013 season. The initial collection consists of nine men’s jackets, five men’s pants, six women’s jackets and three women’s pants.  Throughout all price points, each style is fully featured and provides a classic fit with room for layering.  Drawing inspiration from Dakine's existing snow products, the design focus is on technical features, high-end materials, quality construction, fit, warmth, comfort, performance and value.

“The goal at Dakine is to provide a complete snow program, and back it up with solid, progressive athletes and marketing.  Outerwear complements the existing line of packs, bags, gloves, headwear, base layers and accessories that Dakine currently offers,” said Mike Madlener, Dakine’s Creative Director.

Built to perform in a variety of conditions worldwide, and influenced by Dakine's proximity to Mt. Hood, the line ranges from non-insulated shells, to lightly insulated and fully insulated styles. Durable, lightweight performance fabrics are used throughout, for comfortable jackets and pants that will last.  Additionally, in an effort to minimize its environmental impact, Dakine is working with BlueSign approved fabric mills like Everest and using 100 percent recycled polyester shell fabrics in selected jackets.

Three levels of waterproofing and breathability are featured in the line: 3-Layer, 20k waterproof/20k breathable Entrant DERMIZAX EV by Toray laminates; 2-Layer, 15k waterproof/10k breathable and 2-Layer, 10k waterproof/10k breathable Entrant by Toray laminates.  Seams are either critically taped or fully taped, depending on level of desired waterproofing, and all outside surfaces are treated with a solvent-free Teflon Durable Water Repellent (DWR) finish that provides the initial barrier to rain and snow.

Overall comfort and breathability is enhanced by pairing PrimaLoft ONE insulation and the Dakine component lining system for optimum warmth and moisture management.  The Men's Drift Down Jacket and Women's Kensington Down Jacket feature high-level premium 90/10 goose down for maximum warmth in the coldest conditions.

“I'm so pumped to be on the program.  Dakine has always been super supportive and truly has the best products in the business,” said Chris Benchetler, team veteran since 2006.

“I'm looking forward to being fully on Dakine, including the outerwear,” said Shayne Pospisil, who’s been on the accessories team for three years.

Building on this solid foundation, Dakine has also signed top amateur snowboarder Justin Norman and standout skier Sam Cohen to the outerwear team.

Dakine will show the outerwear to its retail partners at upcoming regional, national, and international tradeshows, including: Outdoor Retailer, SIA, KnowShow, NBS, WSM and ISPO.
