Cramer Products, Inc., the maker of  sports medicine and physical education products, announced that it has acquired Stromgren Athletics of Hays, KS. Stromgren will operate independently from Cramer, with no changes to its staff or operation in Hays.

Terms were not disclosed.

Stromgren is a leader in the development and distribution of sports medicine, compression and protective performance apparel.

“We are extremely pleased and honored to make this announcement,” says Thomas K. Rogge, president and chief executive officer of Cramer Products. “We have always been impressed with Stromgren’s reputation and commitment to quality. Their products complement Cramer’s family of products and are sold into the same channels. Were thrilled to have Stromgren under the Cramer umbrella.”

“This transaction is exciting for Stromgren,” says Steve Arensdorf, Stromgren’s chief operating officer. “Cramer’s standing in the sports medicine industry is second-to-none, and both our companies are known for innovation, quality and outstanding customer service. Bringing our two companies together makes sense from many aspects. We are pleased to be working with Tom Rogge and his team at Cramer and anticipate increased capabilities in the development of new products and sales growth.”

Cramer Products was founded in 1918, and the company is celebrating its 93rd year in 2011. Its first product was an athletic liniment created by pharmacy student Chuck Cramer to soothe his sore ankle. He and his brother, Frank, began selling the product to local athletic teams, and Cramer Products was born. Cramer is known for numerous sports medicine innovations, its role in the founding of the National Athletic Trainers Association, and for its dedication to education and educational products for athletic trainers.

In the early 1980s, Cramer expanded its product lines to include physical education equipment, and in 2004, acquired Cosom Sporting Goods to further increase its line of physical education products. In 2008, Cramer acquired Active Ankle Systems, Inc., a worldwide leader in the development of high-value, high function ankle and foot products, continuing Cramer’s commitment to developing products that heal, protect and help prevent injury.

Stromgren Athletics, founded in 1979, is an innovator in athletic compression and protective apparel products.
