Converse signed Natasha Cloud, the star guard of the Washington Mystics. She becomes the first female basketball player to ink a deal with the athletic brand.
Cloud recently penned an essay which Converse referenced in their signing announcement on Instagram, “Natasha Cloud most recently shared a powerful piece on @playerstribune against the racial injustices that are affecting Black people in America, and then took to the streets of Philly to demand that the message be heard.”
Converse relaunched basketball in April 2019 and Cloud joins Kelly Oubre and Draymond Green as the brand’s basketball ambassadors. Julius Erving, Dwyane Wade, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Dennis Rodman, and Kevin Johnson are some of the most prominent players who have represented Converse in the past. Nike has been Converse’s parent company since 2003.
