In an effort to draw more fitness enthusiasts to the sport of paddling, and to also offer beginning and serious paddlers a great way to improve their on water paddling experience, Confluence, in conjunction with fitness
experts, has developed a new Kayak Fitness program that targets the needs of these specific groups.

Jamie McDonough, lifelong fitness enthusiast, yoga instructor, and avid
kayaker has partnered with Deni Carruth, a certified personal fitness
trainer and physical fitness expert, to create a two-part on land Kayak
Fitness program that blends yoga, cardio, and strength training that one can
do at home, in a gym or spa.

“Our Kayak Fitness program is an excellent way to get more people into the
sport,” said Kelley Woolsey, SVP Marketing & Sales, Confluence. “We hope to
partner with health clubs and spas all over the country to offer a unique
fitness program that will not only help get participants in shape, but also
make them eager to test their skills on the water.”

The fitness programs combine strength building exercises with cardio
intervals to increase the heart rate for overall great fitness. For the
non-paddler, the program provides ways to build up the necessary strength
and flexibility to hopefully one day paddle a kayak with success. For the
avid paddler, it addresses ways to build the supporting muscles to avoid
injury and keep them conditioned during the off-season.

The first part of the program is a fun 45-minute workout using a Kayak
Fitness kit that includes tubing, a medicine ball and a manual that gives a
full description of the exercises and benefits. This portion of the Kayak
Fitness program will provide one with overall body toning, weight loss,
increased strength, flexibility and stress reduction.

The second part features Kayak Fitness with a kayak simulator, a 60-minute
workout that provides the cardio portion of the workout. For the
non-paddler and beginner, this portion of the workout provides an
opportunity to work on paddling strokes without being on the water.

The Kayak Fitness Kit and DVD to complement the program will be available
this October in targeted retail stores and health clubs across the country.

Confluence will host Kayak Fitness demonstrations throughout the day at the
Outdoor Demo and on the Confluence stage in their booth at the Outdoor
Retailer Show.
