Comfort One Shoes, the independent footwear chain based in Alexandria, VA, acquired Saxon Shoes in Richmond, VA.

Saxon Shoes, founded in 1953 and family-operated, has one store in the Short Pump Town Center in Richmond, VA. Comfort One Shoes, founded in 1993, operates 14 stores in Virginia, Maryland and Washington D.C., including two Birkenstock stores.

In a Facebook post, Garrett Breton, president and of Comfort One Shoes, said the acquisition includes the Saxon Shoes store, brand and inventory. The company intends to maintain the Saxon Shoes name.

Breton said, “This purchase marks a continuation of our growth strategy, focusing on acquiring independent shoe stores to protect and enhance their legacies. Saxon Shoes is special for its long-standing history and community impact.

Amanda Weiner, the daughter of retiring Saxon Shoe’s president and CEO Gary Weiner, will join Comfort One Shoes as director of Saxon Shoes and oversee the Richmond market. Breton said, “This partnership will ensure a smooth transition and sustained success for Saxon Shoes.”

Breton concluded, “Gary Weiner, who began his journey stocking shelves as a teenager at Saxon, expressed joy at this new chapter. His sentiments of this being a mostly sweet moment resonate with us, and we are committed to honoring the Weiner family’s legacy while bringing our own touch of innovation and quality. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this journey. We look forward to serving you with the same dedication and passion that has defined Saxon Shoes for decades.”
