The Colorado Tourism Office (CTO) spent $50,000 to run a full-page ad  in Sunday's New York Times proclaiming that snow had finally arrived in the in the Centennial State following reports that ski visitations to many of its resorts was off nearly 11 percent through Dec. 31.

 

The four-color ad focused on the heavy snowfall that hit parts of Colorado over the weekend following nearly three months of no precipitation.

 

On Friday, Colorado Ski Country USA (CSCUSA) reported that the number of visitors at its 22 member resorts was down nearly 11 percent from opening day through Dec. 31 compared to the same period last year. That report followed news from Vail Resorts Inc., which does not report numers to CSCUSA, that skier visits at its four Colorado and two California resorts were down 15 percent through New Year’s Day weekend as compared to last season.
