The Coleman Company has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Exxel Outdoors in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. Coleman asserts that Exxel Outdoors has infringed on three patents relating to unique sleeping bag features developed by Coleman, including Coleman’s Comfort Cuff feature.

According to court documents obtained by BOSS, Coleman is specifically looking at Exxel’s “Airbed cover and Comforter,” produced under the Ozark Trail brand name and sold at Wal-Mart. The documents also confirm that Coleman seeks a permanent injunction that would prohibit Exxel Outdoors from continuing to infringe Coleman’s patents and monetary damages, including treble damages for willful infringement.

Coleman company officials stated that the company invests heavily in its intellectual property and will take appropriate measures to ensure protection of its rights for the benefit of its customers, retailers, and shareholders, as in the newly filed lawsuit against Exxel Outdoors.
