Champion Teamwear has confirmed that it plans to permanently close its facility in Manhattan, KS, affecting 72 jobs.
According to a layoff notice filed with the Kansas Department of Commerce, SPO Management, LLC, the owner of Champion Teamwear, has made the decision to close the facility located at 520 McCall Road in Manhattan, KS.
Champion Teamwear General Manager Miranda Hardenburger said in the press release obtained by KSNT.com that the “difficult decision is being made to relocate operations away from Manhattan to the Lenexa area and other company facilities.”
The company reports that it plans to start the layoffs no earlier than October 3, 2025.
The facility was formerly the headquarters of GTM Sportswear, which HanesBrands, the parent of Champion, acquired in 2016. GTM Sportswear became the headquarters for HanesBrands’ Champion Teamwear business. In 2024, HanesBrands sold its Champion business, including the former GTM Sportswear operations, to Authentic Brands Group. The company then reached an agreement for Ames Watson to manage Champion’s collegiate apparel business, including Gear for Sports, Knights Apparel and Champion Teamwear.
