Chaco had the biggest news on the floor at winter market, which is surprising given the fact that before the show the company made only summer product. This fact is about to change, since Chaco acquired all of the trademarks and assets of the Ulu brand from Linckia, LLC, the brands founder. The acquisition gives Chaco a winter brand that will balance out the seasonality of their current business model. All marketing, sales, and distribution will be consolidated into Chacos Paonia, CO facility. Chaco will be using its existing design and development infrastructure and the Chaco sales team will be taking over the Ulu line as well. There will be separate brand managers for each brand and Chaco is positioning Ulu as a more performance-oriented version of Ugg. Currently, 95% of the Ulu line is womens, while 60% of Chacos line is womens. While half of the current Chaco product line is manufactured in the U.S., the other half is sourced in Asia. Going forward, the entire Ulu line will be sourced in Asia.
