Cascade Designs, the parent of Therm-a-Rest, Mountain Safety Research (MSR), Platypus, SealLine and PackTowl, has named Steve McClure as chief financial officer.
McClure steps into his new role having most recently worked as a partner in the Seattle practice Tatum, a national executive consulting firm. He is also well known as a co-author of the recently released ninth edition of Mountaineering: The Freedom of the Hills, a mountaineering bible.
“In addition to being a mountaineer and climbing instructor, Steve brings more than 30 years of financial and business strategy experience to Cascade. His knowledge of our products, finance experience, general smarts and passion for learning and growth make Steve an exceptional fit,” said David Burroughs, President of Cascade Designs.
In his new role, McClure will help guide Cascade Designs’ overall financial growth and development while assisting the ongoing transformation of the company. He will be working in close partnership with Cascade’s leadership team, including President David Burroughs, and Chief Operating Officer, Chris Parkhurst.
This summer, McClure completed the challenging Sierra High Route, a mostly off-trail adventure down the spine of the Sierras. Throughout the course of this trip, McClure relied on the roster of Cascade Design’s brands, digging deep into the product line.
“I even used the under-appreciated MSR Snow Fluke to protect a scramble up a steep snow-filled gully,” said McClure. “I’m thrilled to be working with the iconic brands behind the products that have kept me comfortable and safe in the backcountry for so many years. This position is the perfect combination of my passions for the outdoors and finance.”
