Workwear brand Carhartt expanded its resale program to all 35 owned-retail stores following the success of its pilot project at six stores.

According to Carhartt, the launch of the pilot project in March 2023 “helped the company extend the life of more than 9,000 garments and kept over 40,000 products out of landfills.”

“We are encouraged by the positive support and feedback the program has received over the first three months, and we are excited to expand it so more hardworking people can get their hands on gear that is not done working,” said Gretchen Valade, director of sustainability at Carhartt.

Carhartt products accepted into its Reworked program must meet condition standards and must have been sold by Carhartt within the last ten years at an original purchase price of at least $50. Customers who want to exchange eligible merchandise through the program receive a digital Carhartt gift card. Products that do not meet Carhartt’s requirements are “recycled or donated to keep fabric out of landfills,” said the company.
