Imports  of camping apparel and gear dipped 1.1 percent in August, but are up 5.9 percent for the year-to-date period ended Aug. 31, according to seasonally adjusted data released Friday by the Bureau of Economic Analysis.

BEA data show that imports of camping apparel and gear declined by $9 million to $826 million in August, but reached $6.70 billion for the January-to-August period, which represents an increase of $371.0 million from  the same period in 2013.

By comparison, overall imports of consumer goods rose 1.6 percent in August and were up 3.65 percent for the year-to-date period.
