Organizers of Colorado’s 6-day Breck Epic MTB Stage Race announced the dates for the 8th annual event will be August 14 to 19, 2016.
The 2016 event will differ from the 2015 version, with the addition of 14 miles of singletrack. Additionally, to preserve the intimate “small race” feel, organizers have also opted to reduce the field size for 2016.
“What started out as a simple way to celebrate Breck’s sprawling trail network has matured beyond anyone’s wildest expectations,” said Epic Race Director Mike McCormack. “Epic began in 2009 with 108 riders amid an economy reeling from a freshly minted global recession. This past year we saw 27 past and present national champions, riders from 23 different countries and over 40 different states.”
Amid the changes made to keep Epic quaint, the cloverleaf format will not be changed for the 2016 installment. Each stage is slated to begin and end within minutes of downtown Breckenridge, allowing riders the luxury of staying in one spot for the entire event and enjoying the sights and relaxation offered by the secluded mountain retreat town.
Three-day “Epic-curious” offerings, along with the 6-days format, will once again be available for the 8th annual race, providing riders with the opportunity to select their stages (one to three or four to six).
Breck Epic is recognized globally as a premier MTB event. The race is produced by Eagle, CO-based public relations agency Uncommon Communications, and was designed to showcase the beauty and intricacies of Breckenridge’s trail network.
Efforts to increase tourist-based business is also at the heart of the event, as the race draws crowds eager to see world-class riders and cycling sponsor brands such as SRAM, Santa Cruz, GU Energy Labs, Ergon Bike, Castelli Cycling, Beaver Run Resort, Mavic, Peak Dentistry, Smith Optics, Rock Shox, Avid, Keen, Coca Cola, Küat Racks, Truvativ and Giro.
Registration for the 2016 event is already underway and hosted on GetEvent.com with early bird pricing in effect through September 31.
