The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc. announced comparable store sales for the five weeks ended July 5, 2003 increased 1.1%. Total sales for the month increased 0.5% to $63.2 million versus $62.9 million reported for the same period last year.

Year-to-date total sales decreased 3.8% to $255.4 million from $265.4 million reported for the same period last year. Comparable store sales decreased 3.1%.

James H. Baireuther, Vice Chairman and Chief Administrative Officer, commented, “June brought more seasonal weather which, along with our very aggressive promotional campaign, resulted in improved sales in seasonal categories. Petites, cosmetics, juniors, home, shoes, accessories, intimate and women’s all had sales increases for the month. We effectively reduced our seasonal inventory levels and will continue to manage inventory and flow of receipts to achieve our turnover goals.”
