The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc. announced comparable store sales for the four weeks ended August 30, 2003 increased 2.4%. Total sales for the month increased 1.7% to $48.0 million versus $47.2 million reported for the same period last year.
Year-to-date total sales decreased 2.7% to $342.2 million from $351.6 million reported for the same period last year. Comparable store sales decreased 2.0%.
James H. Baireuther, Vice Chairman and Chief Administrative Officer, commented, “We are pleased with August comparable store sales results. The positive results reflect merchandising initiatives put into place to drive sales: value, key items and a focused assortment. Shoes, men's, home, intimate, cosmetics, women's, misses sportswear, petites and dresses, all had sales increases for the month. The receipt of fall merchandise is on track and we are encouraged by our customers' response to these new offerings.”
