Black Diamond Equipment Ltd. and the Uinta Brewing Company will sponsor the thirteenth annual fund-raiser party to benefit the Utah Avalanche Center. Slated for 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 14th at Black Diamond the festivities will include dinner from Barbacoa Mexican Grill, music by Jerry Joseph and a silent auction featuring generous donations from various outdoor manufacturers.
“The UAC Fund Raiser is an annual tradition for the Wasatch backcountry community,” explains Colleen Graham Nipkow, Friends of the UAC President and Marketing Operations Director at Black Diamond. “It reconnects people after the dog days of summer, and celebrates the access we have to some of the best powder on the planet.”
A benefit for the UAC, the annual fundraiser is an important initiative, explains Bruce Tremper, Director of the UAC. “The UAC Fundraiser is a key source of funding. For years, Black Diamond has spearheaded this effort and raised significant dollars that contribute to the Friends of the Avalanche Center, which in turn funds forecasting and educational programs for local backcountry users and avalanche awareness programs.”
The UAC is responsible for providing daily avalanche advisories for the northern Utah. Federal funding cuts force the Center to run almost entirely on non-federal money and on a season-by-season basis. The Center has been able to operate for the past ten years due to the community response by backcountry users and local and national businesses.
