Big City Mountaineers is busy planning for the largest summer season in its seventeen-year history. BCM is seeking to fill nearly 200 volunteer spots in order to carry out its recreational mentoring program throughout the country during July and August of this year. These trips will take place in some of North America’s most pristine backcountry settings, including the Cascades, Sierras, Rockies, White Mountains, and Boundary Waters. Trips are being planned with youth agency partners in various U.S. cities, and BCM is in the process of matching interested volunteers to youth programs within their respective geographies.

Big City Mountaineers’ recreational mentoring program is a unique national model, unmatched in its impact and significance. BCM’s program is conducted exclusively by adult volunteers with a five-to-five adult to teen ratio in pristine and inspiring backcountry settings. Although BCM’s eight-day trips are certainly physically challenging, it is the teens’ emotional journey that is the core of the experience.
