Big City Mountaineers (BCM) added three members to its board of directors: Nate Simmons, Michael Leming and Carol Sweasy.

Nate Simmons, partner at Backbone Media and global director of marketing at Polartec, brings considerable brand building and outdoor industry experience to BCM.

Michael Leming, chief talent scout at Nike, is passionate about the outdoors and using his resources to improve the lives of BCM kids.

Carol Sweasy, chair of the Red Wing Shoe Company Foundation, has worked as a child psychologist for many years and has sat on numerous nonprofit boards, including Catholic Charities and the Courage Center. Carol's expertise in youth development and non-profit management will be invaluable as BCM continues to grow.

“Nate, Michael and Carol bring incredible skills and expertise to the BCM Board, and most importantly, they are passionate about BCM's mission.” says Lisa Mattis, BCM executive director. “Our vision is to exponentially increase the number of under-resourced youth we work with to instill critical life skills and improve lives. Nate, Carol and Michael will be instrumental in our ability to meet our vision and positively impact communities.”

Big City Mountaineers has many ways for individuals to get involved, including becoming a volunteer mentor, climbing in our Summit for Someone program or by contributing your support.

Founded in 1989, Big City Mountaineers is a non-profit organization that changes the lives of under-served urban youth through wilderness mentoring expeditions that instill critical life skills. BCM partners with a network of agencies to provide youth the opportunity to experience the beauty and challenges of the wilderness alongside supportive adult role models. BCM programs improve self-esteem, integrity, responsibility, decision-making abilities and communication skills of more than 600 youth annually.
