Audi presented Wednesday a prototype of a high-performance e-bike at the Worthersee Tour in Carinthia Austria, ushering in a category of e-bikes that can be used for sport and trick riding.

E-bikes have been marketed primarily as a healthy, low-cost transportation alternative to passenger cars in Europe, but a video on an Audi micro site shows a rider using the prototype to pop wheelies, ride up stairs and perform other tricks.

“As a high-performance e-bike for sports and trick cycling, it features the Audi core competences of design, ultra, e-tron and connect,” said Audi's Head of Design Wolfgang Egger.

Trial biker Julien Dupont and downhill specialist Petra Bernhard were scheduled to ride prototypes of the bike to demonstrate their stunts and streetbike skills at the 31st annual Worthersee Tour.

Audi is just one of several European auto companies that have entered Europe's rapidly growing e-bike market. Opel announced it would enter the market earlier this year.
