Atlas Snow-Shoe Company has donated snowshoes and training to create a snowshoeing program for Bay Area Wilderness Training (BAWT). BAWT will hold its first snowshoe training course on December 7th (classroom) and Dec 9th (field training) 2006.
Youth leaders from around the San Francisco bay area are invited to take the BAWT snowshoe training. Once a trip leader completes the training they will be eligible to borrow Atlas snowshoe equipment from the BAWT gear library to lead snowshoe outings with their respective youth organizations. Executive director Kyle MacDonald states, “Were proud to work with Atlas to expand our successful summer programs to the winter season. Winter is unique, and snowshoeing is something all kids can do. Many Bay Area, urban youth have never even seen snow, and to experience it in the mountains can be transformative.”
“We are thrilled to be able to seed this sustainable program that will introduce kids to snow,” states Karen Righthand, director of marketing at Atlas Snow-Shoe Company. “Kids of all ages love snow and our partnership with BAWT will allow kids who might not otherwise get the opportunity to experience the wonders of winter.”
