The Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies applauded Secretary Zinke for naming Greg Sheehan as deputy director of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.
Sheehan has served as director of the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources since 2012. During his 25 years in the natural resources and wildlife management sector, Sheehan has shown a track record of successfully restoring fish and wildlife species and working collaboratively with his state and national peers.
“We are excited to be working with our former Utah state director in his new leadership role with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service,” said Nick Wiley, president of the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies and Executive Director of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. “The Association is heartened to know that someone with his leadership and devotion to fish and wildlife is serving as deputy director for the Service.”
“The Association is looking forward to working closely with deputy director Sheehan and furthering our collaborative commitment to our nation’s great outdoor recreational heritage and stewardship,” said Executive Director Ron Regan. “We trust Sheehan will reach out to state fish and wildlife agencies as true partners in managing fish and wildlife on the American landscape.”
Sheehan was heavily involved in the Association of Fish & Wildlife Agencies by serving on the Association’s Executive Committee as well as chairing the Threatened & Endangered Species Policy committee. Sheehan is a lifelong hunter, angler, and aspiring wildlife photographer. Sheehan will begin in mid-June and will serve as the Acting Director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service until a Director is nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate.
