For the third quarter, Asics Corp. saw net sales increase 17.6% to ¥46.8 billion ($397.4 million) from ¥39.8 million ($339.8 million) last year. Gross margin for the company decreased 80 basis points to 45.1% of net sales from 45.9% during the same period last year. Net income increased 57.3% to ¥5.2 billion ($43.8 million) for the half, from ¥3.3 billion ($28.0 million) last year.

Regionally, sales in Japan increased 6.0% to ¥14.7 billion ($124.6 million) from ¥13.8 billion ($118.3 million) last year. Overall international (outside Japan) sales increased 22.0% to ¥29.6 billion ($251.0 million) from ¥24.2 billion ($207.0 million) last year. In the U.S., sales increased 27.5% to ¥9.9 billion ($83.9 million) from ¥7.8 billion ($66.2 million) last year, while European sales increased 19.9% to ¥17.3 billion ($146.9 million) from ¥14.4 billion ($123.2 million) during the third quarter. All other regions saw sales increase 38.0% to ¥1.7 billion ($14.0 million) from ¥1.2 billion ($10.2 million) last year.

Sales of footwear increased 21.6% to ¥33.3 billion ($282.7 million) from ¥27.4 billion during last year’s third quarter. Apparel sales jumped 14.0% to ¥9.9 billion ($84.2 million), while equipment sales slipped 3.3% to ¥3.6 billion ($30.4 million) from ¥3.7 billion ($31.7 million) during the third quarter of last year.
