Former professional tennis player Andre Agassi has sued Target Corp., alleging that the retailer illegally used his name on more than 52,500 pairs of “Agassi” sandals sold at its stores nationwide and through Internet retailer Amazon.com. The sandals are sold under the “Mossimo Agassi” name. The suit estimates that to-date, Target has made more than $600,000 from sales of Agassi sandals.

Agassi, who is being represented by the Santoro, Driggs, Walch, Kearney, Holley and Thompson law firm in Las Vegas, learned in June that Target had been selling sandals using his name without permission from Agassi Enterprises, Inc., a Nevada Corp. According to papers filed in Nevada District Court, Target told Agassi's lawyers in July that using the athlete’s name was consistent with its practice of using men's names on certain footwear,     although Agassi had previously requested a month earlier that his name and the sandals be removed from store shelves.
