Amazon Prime Day, which typically takes place in mid-July, has been postponed due to COVID-19.
“This year we’ll be holding Prime Day later than usual while ensuring the safety of our employees and supporting our customers and selling partners,” an Amazon spokesperson said in a statement. The annual shopping event promises discounts for Amazon Prime members.
Amazon added that the company plans to go ahead with a discount event in India on August 6-7. “Members all around the world will experience Prime Day later this year,” the statement said.
Rumors that Prime Day would be delayed date back to at least April when it was reported that the event could be delayed until August. However, most recently, CNBC reported that the company had told third-party sellers to expect Prime Day to happen on October 5 this year.
