Alpenglow Sports, a Tahoe City, CA specialty outdoor retailer, will present its 11th annual Winter Film Series beginning Thursday, November 17, 2016.
Designed to inspire, motivate and educate, the event runs from November through February and showcases four to five athletes who tell various tales of adventure from remote mountain ranges across the globe. All shows are free and raffle prizes from sponsors are sold to raise funds for local non-profit organizations.
To date, the Alpenglow Sports Winter Film Series has raised over $70,000 for the North Lake Tahoe non-profit community. Past beneficiaries include the Sierra Avalanche Center, Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue, Disabled Sports Far West, the Tahoe Food Hub and High Fives Foundation.
“The Winter Film Series represents a unique opportunity for our community to come together and celebrate a shared passion of mountain adventure,” said Event Director and Alpenglow Sports Owner Brendan Madigan. “It’s a special event that perpetuates the connectivity of our mountain tribe while raising vital funds for local non-profits making a tangible difference in our community.”
Mountain adventurer and Winter Film Series Co-founder Dave Nettle will kick things off at Squaw Valley’s Olympic Village Lodge with his show “Ski Mountaineering in the Tyrol: Hut to Hut Ski Touring the Stubai Alps.”
Said Madigan, “As co-founder of the Winter Film Series, Dave Nettle has been cultivating community in North Lake Tahoe through his compelling tales of adventure, for well over thirty years, and it’s always such an honor to kick off the series with him.” Nettle’s show is driven by images, narrative and emotion.
The non-profit beneficiary for the evening is the Tahoe Backcountry Alliance, a voice for the human-powered winter backcountry community in the Lake Tahoe area, advocating for and informing about critical issues affecting winter backcountry recreation in Tahoe.
Raffle prizes will be provided by sponsors Millet, Leki, Western Mountaineering, Prana, Strength Solutions and more.
