adidas announces that it has reached a multi-year partnership agreement with Gilbert Arenas, the 2002-03 NBA Most Improved Player Award winner and Washington Wizard point guard.
In Arenas, the summer's most sought after free agent, adidas adds one of
the leagues best backcourt players to their strong NBA line-up. While with
the Golden State Warriors in 2002-03, the 6'3″ guard averaged 18.3 points,
4.7 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 1.5 steals per game in 82 games. Following a
30-point performance Arenas was named the MVP of the 2003 “got milk?”
Rookie Challenge on All-Star Saturday in Atlanta.
“Arenas is an exciting young player that will have a great impact on the
game, our basketball business and our brand,” stated Kevin Wulff, Director of
Sports Marketing for adidas America. “We are impressed by his leadership and
talent on the court and his personality off the court. We are confident that
Arenas will help adidas continue its strong momentum in basketball.”
Playing in 13 games of this young 2003-04 NBA season, Arenas ranks 13th in
scoring (20.8ppg), 16th in assists (5.5apg) and 8th in steals (1.92spg). The
three statistical categories are also leading the Washington Wizards.
“adidas has a great reputation for focusing both on creating great product
and creating strong relationships with their athletes,” explained Gilbert
Arenas. “They are a major player in basketball and I am excited about teaming
with T-MAC (Tracy McGrady), KG (Kevin Garnett), Tim Duncan and the other
adidas basketball players in helping adidas strengthen their position in
basketball.”
