Adidas Football unveiled new footwear in the Dark Ops Collection, in a style play that pays tribute to the U.S. military.
The Dark Ops Collection of cleats features 2016 adizero 5-Star 5.0 x Kevlar and Freak x Kevlar. Taking design inspiration from the U.S. Navy SEALs, these cleats, the third pack in the Dark Ops collection, incorporate black colorways from U.S. Sea, Air and Land Teams’ uniforms and wetsuits. Along with adapting the physical look from military inspiration, these new cleats were inspired by the work of elite forces, made to promote speed and performance.

The lightweight Dark Ops 2016 adizero 5-Star 5.0 upper is constructed from durable yet flexible canvas – similar to military accessories and footwear. Embroidered stripes are a salute to the insignia found on elite forces uniforms, and stitching reinforced with Kevlar provides durability and strength. The 5-Star Frame, featuring a plate (also reinforced with Kevlar) is boasted as being the optimum blend of lightweight, strength and traction. This cleat also has a unique lacing system.
The Dark Ops 2016 Freak x Kevlar
The Dark Ops 2016 Freak x Kevlar is marketed as, “stronger than carbon, faster than the competition.” Constructed from a durable, flexible canvas – also similar to military accessories and footwear – these cleats were inspired by the gear-carrying vests worn by elite forces. A Lockweb midfoot features a tunable lacing system to tailor the fit and performance of the cleat to its individual wearer. Embroidered stripes on the Freak X Kevlar pay tribute to the insignia found on military uniforms, and stitching reinforced with Kevlar provides that good old grit. These cleats also have the 5-Star Frame for strength and traction.
