An athletic wear competition will replace the swimsuit portion of the Miss Teen USA pageants, run by Miss Universe.
After sentiments among Miss Universe that the swimsuit competition was outdated, the organization responded with a replacement that should allow the dress to feel, “less exploitative and more focused on the importance of physical fitness for its younger participants,” reported USA Today.
Miss Universe also took into consideration the sustaining athleisure trend and its popularity amongst the Miss Teen USA demographic.
The switch is also an opportunity to promote healthy active lifestyles among young people.
