Academy Sports + Outdoors announced that it will debut its first store in the Atlanta area on Friday, April 1. It's the fourth Academy Sports store in the state of Georgia.
The store is nearly 70,000 square feet and is located at 198 South Point Boulevard in McDonough. It brings 150 new jobs to the area.
“We've been excited about the Atlanta market for some time,” says John Hay, Academy Sports + Outdoors vice president of real estate. “McDonough is the first opportunity for Academy Sports + Outdoors to establish its active family offering in one of the biggest and most vibrant markets in the United States. We've established key partnerships in the market with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the Atlanta Braves. We also look forward to getting involved as an active member of the Atlanta community with youth sports leagues as well as other grassroots programs as we are committed to growing our presence in the Atlanta market over the next two years.”
On Thursday, March 31, Store Director Jeremy Goldman will cut the ribbon at the McDonough store, and open it for a private give-back event where 40 children from Walnut Creek Elementary will be treated to a shopping spree. The children will be the store's first customers. Each child will receive a $100 gift card to shop with plus a personal shopping assistant courtesy of Academy Sports + Outdoors.
Additionally, McDonough will celebrate its grand opening April 15-17. The event will provide Atlanta residents with numerous door-buster deals, line-up specials, prizes, celebrity autograph opportunities, free food and fun for the entire family. Academy Sports operates more than 100 stores across the Southeastern United States from its headquarters in Katy, Texas outside of Houston.
