Academy Sports + Outdoors, based in the Houston area, has reopened most of its stores impacted by Hurricane Harvey and has stepped up to play a major role in recovery efforts.

The campus of its corporate headquarters in Katy, TX has been converted into a unified command center for the National Guard, Texas Department of Public Safety, FBI and various EMS crews, said Elise Hasbrook, an Academy spokesperson. Since Monday, Academy has hosted more than 400 first responders and have provided them with food, shelter, equipment and clothing as they deploy daily to assist in relief efforts.

Academy is also in the process of coordinating product donations that will include numerous supplier contributions that the company anticipates will exceed $1 million. Since the storm began, Academy has further helped various police departments with product donations, including donations of jon boats, paddles, kayaks, canoes, ponchos, sleeping bags, airbeds and life jackets.
