In an update, Ken Hicks, CEO of Academy Sports + Outdoors, said Academy Sports has been deemed an essential retailer by CISA in most of its markets and the majority of its stores remain open.
The update, from April 8, noted that store hours will continue to be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. to provide time to perform extra cleaning.
In a March 30 update, Academy Sports said almost all of its stores and all three of its distribution centers remain open for business as the retailer said it has been determined to be an essential retailer by several CISA sector standards, in part, because the retailer’s products are used to counter the severe weather season in the southwest region.
At the time, Academy Sports said it would be limiting the number of customers allowed in the store at one time, cleaning carts and handbasket handles before providing them to customers, enforcing distancing by opening only every other point-of-sale register and taking other steps as precautions to protect customers.
