It was a good news, bad news scenario last week for the Dick’s Sporting Goods store in the University area of Charlotte, NC as local police were forced to close the store during a Midnight Madness sale that also featured the launch of the Retro Jordan 13 shoe Tuesday night.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police had to break up a mob of about 500 to 600 customers who were waiting in line for the opportunity to buy the shoe. Store personnel said they sold all 200 pairs allocated to the store. No other Charlotte area stores received the shoes. Dick’s did not report problems at any other stores across the country.
One local report said the waiting crowd tried to force open the doors before midnight, knocking one employee to the ground and damaging the doors. Police reportedly closed the door and sent customers home. No one was arrested. Another report said DKS is now reviewing its security policies.
