Payless ShoeSource, which filed for bankruptcy on Tuesday, revealed the list of stores closing after filing for bankruptcy on Tuesday.
In filing for bankruptcy in St. Louis, Payless said it would immediately close 400 locations in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, and will modify leases for some other stores or evaluate them for closure. As expected, the biggest states saw the most closures, including about 110 in Texas and 50 in California.
The full list of closures is here.
The company currently had about 4,400 locations in more than 30 countries before Tuesday’s bankruptcy filing. Payless did not say how many of its more than 25,000 employees would be affected by the closures.
In its statement on the filing, W. Paul Jones, CEO of Payless, said, “This is a difficult, but necessary, decision driven by the continued challenges of the retail environment, which will only intensify.”
