Dick's Sporting Goods completed its $362 million acquisition of Galyan's on Thursday via a deal structured as a merger. With the 48 Galyans doors, Dicks now has 221 stores in 32 states and had combined sales of about $2.2 billion in the last fiscal year.
The grapevine last week had Dicks extending offers to nearly 100 Galyans employees and some have already made the decision to make the move. The move should add almost 20% more headcount to the Dicks HQ staff in Pittsburgh.
In other news, Dicks is apparently ready to make a bigger move into Massachusetts, taking over a site at Naticks Sherwood Plaza that was once occupied by Decathlon (MVP) Sports. Dicks will reportedly tear down part of the Plaza and add a new 68,000 square foot two-story store. In the southern strategy, DKS is reportedly moving into the Citadel Mall in Charleston, SC, a mall well known for its proximity to the coastal islands and tourist destinations on the citys southern flank.
