Goody's Family Clothing reported total sales for fiscal periods ended May 1, 2004, compared with fiscal periods ended May 3, 2003, as follows (dollars in millions):
====================================================================== Total Sales Percent Change --------------------- -------------------------- Comparable Fiscal Period: 2004 2003 Total Sales Store Sales --------------------- -------------------------- April $ 100.1 $ 95.1 5.3% 1.8% March and April $ 225.8 $ 216.7 4.2% 0.9% First Quarter $ 302.9 $ 283.0 7.0% 4.1% ======================================================================
The fiscal periods of March and April are shown on a combined basis due to the fact that the pre-Easter selling season occurred one week earlier in April this year compared with last year.
“I am pleased to report that we achieved positive comparable store sales for April 2004 as well as a 4.1% comparable store sales increase for the first quarter of fiscal 2004,” commented Robert M. Goodfriend, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “We were able to overcome the adverse impact of some unseasonably cooler weather that occurred in most of our markets during parts of April, particularly in the last week of the month. On days when the weather was warm and dry, we were generally pleased with our sales results. When we return to more seasonal weather patterns, I believe our sales levels will improve above those achieved during the March and April 2004 period.”
Today, the Company celebrated the grand opening of three new stores, one each in Ellijay, Georgia; Lawrenceburg, Tennessee; and Corsicana, Texas.
