Former professional basketball player Steve Nash is suing to have his name removed from the Steve Nash Fitness World gyms that operate in Canada, due to his lack of current affiliation with SNFW Fitness BC Ltd.— the company which operates the locations.
In 2009 Nash lent his name to the Fitness World gym franchise in what was being marketed as Canada’s first celebrity-branded fitness chain. Along with leasing his name, Nash teamed with New Evolution Fitness Company and investment firm Angelo, Gordon and Company to buy outright the Fitness World name.
A notice of civil claim was filed with the B.C. Supreme Court on October 14 by Nash’s B & L Holdings Ltd., alleging a breach of contract.
Steve Nash Fitness World claims to be the largest fitness provider in B.C. with 21 separate locations.
