Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) will host an Outdoor Nation summit in Quebec this weekend to nurture the next generation of outdoor enthusiasts and conservationists.

The Vancouver, British Columbia-based outdoor specialty retailer and cooperative is expecting 75 young people aged 18 to 35 to participate at MEC Outdoor Nation’s Think Outside Summit October 1-2 at Îles-de-Boucherville National Park in Quebec. In additional to enjoying the beginning of fall, participants will develop projects to encourage and inspire their peers to get active outdoors.

After a weekend of workshops, inspiring speakers, retreats, yoga, canoe, kayak and paddle board outings as well as campfires, the summit will culminate with the crowning of three winning projects. The creators of the winning projects will receive a grant from MEC to put their vision into action.

Outdoor Nation was launched in 2010 by the Outdoor Foundation, a not-for-profit arm of Outdoor Industry Association that tracks and promotes participation in outdoor recreation. After hosting dozens of national and regional summits across the United States, Outdoor Nation has focused its work on college campuses in recent years.

The 2016 Outdoor Nation College Campus Challenge kicked off September 4 at more than 80 colleges and will run through October 15.
