Equinox, a fitness club company, commemorated its 25th anniversary and recommitted to global growth and innovation across its portfolio.
Equinox has continued to grow in 2016, with 10 new clubs opening by year’s end, with plans to expand to 100 clubs by 2018. The company will add locations in Hollywood, Bond Street, New York City and Vancouver, British Columbia by December. Its home market of New York will also add gyms in Dumbo, Williamsburg, E. 92nd St., E. 53rd, Gramercy and Bond Street.
On the West Coast, Equinox expanded into San Diego County with Equinox La Costa, and will open Equinox Berkeley in Northern California in early 2017.
“25 years ago, Equinox took a bold stance in a new category, effectively creating the concept of luxury fitness and driving fresh conversations about what high performance living means,” said Harvey Spevak, CEO, Equinox. “We remain…more in-demand than ever before — because of our unwavering commitment to pushing boundaries, both inside and outside our clubs.”
Equinox will open its first hotel in New York City in 2019 to offer a “360-degree lifestyle experience,” according to a company press release. The company plans to expand its hotel brand to more than 50 worldwide locations.
Equinox works with designers like Meyer Davis and Yabu Pushelberg for the design of its club environments. It launched in September an ongoing partnership with the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) to launch the Coalition for Health as Beauty program, pursuing the shared goal of encouraging and promoting health and wellness in the fashion industry.
The 25th anniversary will be marked with a 25th Capsule Collection, 1991, consisting of men’s and women’s apparel, bags and accessories, available at The Shop @ Equinox. Equinox will also introduce a limited nationwide run of MetCon25 — a take on the gym’s MetCon3 class — with five rounds of metabolic conditioning with five exercises each.
