Altra Running once again secured its spot as the reigning Leadville 100 brand as its elite runner, British-born Ian Sharman, achieved his second consecutive win, passing Max King, who is sponsored by Salomon, at mile 80.
Sharman placed third at Blueprint for Athletes Leadville 100 ultra race in 2014 and first in 2013.
In 2015 Sharman beat his 2013 winning time by 11 minutes, setting a PR to finish in 16:22:39 — the fourth fastest time ever at the race and two hours ahead of second place.
Another Altra athlete, Kyle Pietari, pulled up second in 2016 with a time of 18:16:48.
The Leadville Trail 100 Run, also known as the legendary “Race Across the Sky,” features 100 miles of extreme Colorado Rockies terrain, river crossings and elevations of 9,200 to 12,600 feet. This annual race is held every August near Leadville, CO. The course has a 30-hour cutoff and each year about half of the participants are unable to finish the race.
